Sandbox and Live
Every backend has two copies: Sandbox, where your agent builds and tries things, and Live, which your customers use. A change goes Live only when you approve it.
How Typestate does it
- Your agent releases to Sandbox whenever it likes. Sandbox sends no real mail and moves no money.
- To go Live, it makes a change: what is added, what is changed, and whether any data would be lost.
- Your agent shows you the change and records your approval. A change with an open question, or one that takes payments, you read and approve yourself in the cockpit. An edit after that cancels the approval.
What you can do with it
- Try a new action on its own address before your customers see it.
- Leave a comment on a change. It cannot be approved while the comment is open.
- Send only the actions you name, and keep the rest in Sandbox.
- See every earlier version and what changed.
What Typestate gives you
- Sandbox
- any release, any time
- Live
- only a change you approved
- Examples
- an action with a failing example cannot go Live
- Data loss
- named in the change, and you confirm it a second time
- Versions
- all kept, each one comparable
Say this to your agent
